Zach Top Co-Hosts 9/26-27
The co-host this wknd is Zach Top, who is in our Top 15 with “South Of Sanity.” His latest album, “Ain’t In It For My Health” was just nominated for CMA Album of the Year. He’s also nominated for Male Artist. Zach opened George Strait’s Lubbock concert, and he got to hang out with the King. he previews his first-ever headline show in Nashville. He also looks ahead to his plans for next year.
This is Zach’s birthday weekend! He turns 29 on Saturday: “Closing in on the big 3-0. Thirty is the new 20. I’ve heard that said. I’m not scared. I feel like I’m still acting like I’m 17, so I’m alright. We’re playing a show in San Antonio. I didn’t put a lot of thought in the birthday show. We usually have great shows in Texas.”
In April,. Zach opened a show for George Strait in Texas: “It was amazing, bucket list thing, He’s the first thing I remember when I was little. Got to hang out with him on his bus, drink a little tequila, and chat with him for a bit. We talked a lot about golf. We’re both frustrated golfers, Any time I get around guys like that, I gotta hold myself back from being a fan. I try to play it cool and have a normal conversation.”
Zach says talk of his Riley Green workout is getting blown out of proportion: “I’ve poked fun at Riley because he’s got a gym setup on the road. I do try to get some exercise because if all you do is sit on the bus and drink beer the girls might not be so excited to look at me on stage if I’m 300 pounds. I’ve had to adopt some of Riley’s routine.
Zach just received a CMA nomination for his album Ain’t In It For My Health: “Album and Entertainer are right up there. The album thing, having your whole body of work acknowledged, there’s something cool about that. If not the top one, it’s one of the ones I’d like to win.”
Zach will end his tour in Nashville on October 30: “Very excited about that. Fun to wrap up the tour in Nashville. We’ve not headlined a show in Bridgestone yet. This will be our first time. We’ll have lots of friends and family,”
What happens after that? “We’re laying low. We’ll be in the studio a little bit. Finishing the next record. We’ll do some duck hunting. Take the dog and find some birds. Next year, we’ll headline again. Then we headline Stagecoach for the first time. Super honored to do that. That’s a wild feeling.”
Zach also has great stories this week about Jason Aldean, Jon Pardi, Dan & Shay, Chris Stapleton, and the late Dolly Parton.
