John Morgan Co-Hosts 10/3-4

| September 28, 2026

The co-host this wknd is John Morgan, who is in our Top 5 with Kid Myself. John also wrote Jason Aldean’s current hit Anytime Soon, as well as his previous #1 Don’t Tell On Me. John & Jason had a #1 duet last year with Friends Like That. Plus Lon & John speak with the artist who has this week’s #1 song.

John tells Lon that he got connected to Jason Aldean thanks to an Uber driver: “I moved to Nashville in 2019, and took a sales job at the mall.  One day a guy came in the store, and realized he was my Uber driver from a year ago.  He asked me if I was still writing songs.  I sent him a bunch of songs. We started writing together.  He connected me with Jason’s team.  One day out of the blue, Jason called me and made me an offer.”

He usually is happy when Jason records his songs. He only asked for one song back: “If he loves it, it’s all his. But this new song Cry Baby is the first song that I’ve ever texted Aldean and asked him if I can have it back.  He put it on hold, but didn’t record it.  So when he didn’t record it, I asked him for it back.”  John’s version of that song Cry Baby has just been released.

John was a writer on Jason’s current single Anytime Soon: “I didn’t expect him to cut this song. It was out of the norm from what he cuts.  I didn’t think he’d single it. When was the last time you heard a keyboard intro on an Aldean song.  But he’s a huge Ronnie Milsap fan.  This song has that vibe, and it worked out.”

Lon informed John that Kid Myself has been in the chart for over a year: “Sometimes it takes a minute for a song to become an earworm for people. For them to live with it and digest it and become familiar, A lot of it too was it’s my first single on my own.  It’s easy to do it once, it’s hard to follow it up.” Just this week, the song went Platinum.

This week’s #1 is the first for Stella Lefty.  Lon called her up to congratulate her: “I’m absolute amazed by everything that’s happened with Boston. I was at the airport when I found out. I got a text. I was freaking out in the airport. I could never imagine it happening.  I was on the road as the song went up the chart.  I felt like more people knew it, and people were singing it back to me.”

Lon informed her that as a woman on her first single, she went to #1 the fastest in 20 years. Before that it was Carrie Underwood with Jesus Take The Wheel: “It’s impossible for me to process that, because I grew up with Carrie Underwood.  So to be in the conversation with her is a dream come true.”

Lon asked Stella how she celebrated her first #1: “I was in Canada with my boyfriend Vincent. We definitely took a shot on behalf of Boston’s success. That was our celebration. But I hope to continue celebrating it because this is obviously a huge milestone in my life and career. So there will be more celebration to come.”

John also has great stories this week about Tyler Hubbard, Riley Green, Parmalee, Luke Bryan, and Ella Langley.
