Scotty McCreery Co-Hosts 7/25-26

| July 20, 2026

The co-host this wknd is Scotty McCreery, who just released a new album celebrating 15 years since his win on American Idol. The album includes 9 of his hits plus four new songs. “It’s been 15 years since I got started, and we don’t always get a chance to stop and smell the roses, so I was excited to do that this time.”

The big change in Scotty’s life this past year was the birth of his second song Oliver: “He’s been such a little cutie, and he’s a big boy. He’s 9 months wearing 18 month clothing. Avery’s been such a great big brother.  Gabi’s been crushin’ it as mama bear. So what a joy.

Avery’s 3-1/2, so how’s he doing? “Avery is awesome, he loves to teach his brother things. Avery’s into sports and wonders ‘Why can’t Ollie do this with me?’ Avery is a ham, so if he sees Ollie making people laugh, he’ll jump in and try to make people laugh too.

Is Ollie mobile yet? “Not yet, but he’s starting to rock back & forth. Maybe next time we talk, he’ll be on the go.  But at the moment it’s just too much weight to move.  We got our hands full in all the best ways.  When the day ends, we just appreciate the blessings we have. It’s crazy, but amazing time in the house right now.”

Scotty just performed with Hootie & The Blowfish at Chicago’s Windy City Smokeout: “Yeah, we got to catch up. That was the first time we did the song together.  I did it with Darius at the O2 a few months ago.  Darius may be the coolest guy in country music.  Love that guy, he’s been a big brother to me, but he could do better in fantasy football league. Other than that, he’s solid.”

Lon asked if he feels Idol has changed in 15 years: “I could talk for a few hours on that, the changes I see. They weren’t too hard on us my season. I was the first season without Simon.  He would have hated me. I pick on things where I feel the producers made them do things. But it has to be tough where they do the singing and eliminations on the same night.  That’s crazy to me. I don’t know how they do it.”

Lauren Alaina was runner up the year Scotty won Idol.  So she’s also celebrating 15 years: “I don’t see her as often as I wish I could.  I will always be her biggest fan.  I still think she’s the best voice in Nashville. I love seeing her on the chart.  I got to see her during the Kane tour, and was about to become a mom.  So I know she’s crushin’ it as a mama, and hope I get to see her again soon.”

Lon asked what Scotty has next as far as new music: “I’m itching to get back in the studio to make a full length album.  I’ll be back in the studio in a month or two, been writing songs for that. Can’t wait for folks to hear what we’re working on.”

Can you tell me about some of the songs? “We’ve got a song written about my dog Moose. I didn’t go into the session looking for a dog song, but I’m so glad it happened.  I’m pretty sure that song will make the album.  I also wrote a story song about my grandmothers.  I lost both of them last year. So if Five More Minutes was for my grandfather, then this song is more touching on my grandmothers.”

Scotty also has great stories this week about Russell Dickerson, Darius Rucker, Dustin Lynch, Kane Brown, Dan + Shay, and Zach Top.
