Cole Swindell Co-Hosts 6/27-28
The co-host this wknd is Cole Swindell, who just released a new song called “Girl Dad.” Cole & wife Courtney are the parents of an 11 month old baby girl they named Rainey. Cole says he shares a new hobby with Jason Aldean. He’s also friends with two new artists who each have their first songs in our Top 30.
Last August, Cole & wife Courtney became the parents of a baby girl they named Rainey: “That is #1 on my list of all things. It’s wild, you hear how special it’s gonna be, and some of the best things you gotta live em to go tell about. It’s everything people say. It’s a lot.”
The name came from Cole’s mom: “My mother’s maiden name. My grandpa told me not to forget where I came from. That was the name I always thought of. To honor our moms with our daughter’s name is so cool.
Rainey is almost 11 months old, and is starting to move around: “She’s crawling. We started working with her, and she hasn’t stopped. She pulls herself up. She’s not quite standing on her own. It’s just amazing.”
How has fatherhood changed him? “I’ve had to make some personal changes. Growing up, it took me a little longer. Losing my dad and the impact he made on me. You have to find the good in every situation. Me going through that makes me know I have to be a good example. I want her to know me as her dad. It scared me to death, the life I’m leading now. I wish it could have happened sooner, but it all works out when it’s supposed to.:
Cole talks about writing Girl Dad: “I’d heard the term girl dad. I wanted it to be more personal. It came from a real place. I’d like to think my dad would be proud of all this. It’s an update to ‘You Should Be Here.’ I want him to know what’s going on now. I want people to find some hope in this story.”
Cole recognized two artists having their first Top 30 songs now: Greylan James was Cole’s co-writer on “Forever To Me.” He also said this about Zach John King: “He’s another Georgia boy doing well. He will be part of my show at Red Rocks. We’ve written a song together and I hope to record it. I’m excited to see what happens for him.”
Next week will be Cole’s 43rd birthday: “I’m thankful to be turning 43. I didn’t get a chance to start doing this until I was 30. It’s almost like fatherhood. I would have messed it up if I started earlier. Things now start to mean more. I need to keep trying to be here, because Rainey’s gonna need me.”
Cole also has great stories this week about Jordan Davis, Luke Bryan, Morgan Wallen, Dylan Scott, and Ella Langley.
NEXT WEEK: Chris Young
