Ella Langley Co-Hosts 2/28-3/1
The co-host this wknd is Ella Langley, who is in our Top 5 with “Choosin’ Texas.” It’s from Ella’s new album “Dandelion,” available April 10th. She & her team came to our studio with Choosin’ Texas caps and cookies, which you can see in the pictures.
Lon began the interview by asking Ella if she survived Nashville’s ice storm a few weeks ago: “We lost power, but now we’re back. It was out for enough time to make me go to a hotel for a night. Thank goodness for a gas fireplace.
Her current hit “Choosin’ Texas” has been having an impact in both country & pop music. Lon asked if Ella & her co-writer Miranda Lambert talk about that success: “We were talking on Facetime the other night. We’ve made history with this song, both just baffled and grateful. We loved the song, but never thought it would do this. There’s no way you can predict it.”
Miranda co-wrote the song, but also co-produced Ella’s new album. Lon asked about that: “Such a godsend for me. I always wanted to produce a record with her. After we wrote Choosin’ Texas, she was there for all the sessions. She also was there for me to ask advice. She said to me ‘You are more important than this job.’ She made me care for myself. Having someone like that made me feel like I’m okay.”
Ella received advice from a lot of artists. She just wrapped up a tour with Eric Church: “He told me, ‘When this thing gets weird, make it about the music.’ He said, ‘I’ll never make another Chief. That was it. You get one Chief, and that’s what it is.’ Then he’s on to the next thing.”
She also got Eric a gift: “I randomly got him a pocket watch at an antique store. I gave it to him. It was like a pocket watch from the 20s, with a gold chain connected to a pocket knife. There was engraving on the back, and it was an ‘E.’ So that was cool.”
She also is recorded a song with Keith Urban: “Imagine you’re me, and you get a text from Keith Urban. When he reached out, I said ‘Absolutely.’ We also finished up some of this album at his studio. One day, he was just there sitting on the couch, just hanging out. He just sat there and listened. It was really cool.”
Ella told Lon she’s now rested and ready for what she hopes will be a very exciting year: “It’s really cool to be me right now. If you have a passion, whether it’s music or anything, trust yourself, because it is the coolest thing to wake up and do what you love to do every day.”
Ella also has great stories this week about Luke Bryan, Riley Green, Hardy, Thomas Rhett, and Cody Johnson.
