Chris Young Co-Hosts 10/11-12
The co-host this wknd is Chris Young, who is about to release his 10th album: “I Didn’t Come Here To Leave.” It’s his first album on a new record label. He’s also about to embark on his first-ever Christmas tour, and he hints there may also be some new Christmas music coming.
Lon had just attended an industry event where Chris performed songs from his new album: “I appreciate you being there. We’ve known each other for a long time now. Grateful for your company and listening to the new record. It’s been amazing to be at a new record label for the first time in my career.”
Lon asked Chris if he feels his has something to prove with this album: “Not really. I just wanna make songs people love. I feel like I have a lot of things left to say, not to prove. That’s how I feel about the process of this record.
Meghan Patrick has her first Top 30 song. She’s the wife of Mitchell Tenpenny. Chris has known them both for a while: “Our duet At The End of a Bar would not have happened were it not for Meghan Patrick. She was the one I asked before asking Mitchell to sing on it. I asked if she thought he’d do it with me. She said yeah, and she’s a big reason why that song happened. Now she has her first Top 30 with Golden Child.”
Chris is about to do a Christmas tour: “Never done one before. I’ve recorded a lot of Christmas music. There may be new Christmas music coming soon. I love that season. I love decorating for Christmas. The music from that holiday is really special. I’m going to do smaller rooms, Christmas at the beginning, hits in the middle, and more Christmas music at the end. We’re gonna make it fun. It’s gonna be a very different kind of show, and I’m excited about it.”
Chris recently took a trip to Buffalo to appear in HBO’s Hard Knocks. While there he met quarterback Josh Allen. “He saw a watch I had on. I’m a big watch guy. I’ve got a couple really cool watches, and one of them I got when I signed my record deal. It’s a Rolex Sky Dweller. Josh Allen saw it, and he looked at the Bills owner Terry Pagula and says, ‘I want one of those for my birthday.'”
Chris also has great stories this week about Blake Shelton, Zach Top, Jelly Roll, Kane Brown, and Jon Pardi.
NEXT WEEK: Dustin Lynch
