Scotty McCreery Co-Hosts 9/27-28
The co-host this wknd is Scotty McCreery, who is in our Top 5 with “Bottle Rockets,” featuring Hootie & The Blowfish. He & his wife Gabi just announced the birth of their second son, Oliver Cooke McCreery. In November, he’ll hit the road with Dustin Lynch.
Scotty just wrapped up his tour last week: “Yes, we just finished our last tour date, which was overseas, I just got home from Switzerland. So I’m glad the baby didn’t come while I was overseas.”
Scotty told Lon he knows having two boys is a lot of work: “Yeah we’re gonna have our hands full. Everybody says we’re going from zone defense to man to man, so we’ll see how this goes.”
Scotty was one of the artists who took part in the Concert For Carolina: “To be honest, I think that was the most special night of my career, seeing the whole state come together. This was unprecedented. A lot of our family and friends were affected. When we saw it, I wanted to do something to help. When I got the call, I said 100%, absolutely.”
While at the show, Scotty did some star-watching: “I’ll always appreciate James Taylor opening for me. He went on right before me. As I was walking to the stage, James went to Carolina On My Mind, and I had chills through my body. I’ll never forget that moment. That was a special night, proud to be a part of it.”
In July, Scotty’s two grandmothers died tragically on the same day. Lon had met one of them a few years ago, so they talked about her: “Yeah you met Paquita. I wrote Five More Minutes for her husband, my grandfather Bill. My grandmother Paquita and grandmother Janet were special ladies. I feel fortunate that I got to have 31 years with them. It was a bit of a shock that it happened on the same day, within a few hours of each other. But again, I feel fortunate that I got to spend so much time with them.
Lon asked how Scotty’s 3 year old son Avery feels about his baby brother: “He’s very excited. I don’t know if you have a lot of Bojangles in Nashville, but it’s huge here. Avery thinks his brother is going to be named Bo Berry McCreedy, after a Bo Berry biscuit. I think Bo Berry will be a nickname that Avery gets to call him. It’s not gonna make the cut.”
Scotty also has great stories this week about Megan Moroney, Darius Rucker, Dustin Lynch, Zach Top, and Russell Dickerson.
