Sam Hunt Co-Hosts 7/19-20
The co-host this wknd is Sam Hunt, who’s in the Top 5 with Country House. He & wife Hannah just became parents of a new baby boy they’ve named Waymen. He’s about to move into a new “country house.” He’s also working on new music.
Lon began the show by asking Sam how’s life with three kids: “It’s a big jump. I got the warning from everybody I know with three. The work gets a lot tougher when the third one arrives. The baby requires more from mom, so dad has to take up the slack with the other two. That’s new to me, because Hannah is usually with the other two.”
Lon then asked about the baby’s name: “Weyman Allen is his name. They’re old family names. My dad’s name is Allen. They all have family names. There’s no jealousy from the older ones. They’re learning they can’t always have mom & dad’s attention. We got them a playground in the yard and that keeps them occupied for a lot of the time.
The baby is now two months old, born on May 21st: “He’s thriving now. He had a slow start, but he’s eating well. He’s a little more wound up than the other two. We don’t get as much sleep as we did with the other two. He’s into more of a routine now.”
The Hunts have been living in a 4-room cabin outside of Nashville. In fact it was that house that inspired his current hit. “This song speaks to where I am in my life right now. I really envisioned my little cabin that I live in when writing this song.”
But with three kids, he’s outgrown a 4 room cabin: “We’re hoping to move when the tour ends. We have another place, it’s also a rustic cabin, but it has a little more room. It used to be a hunting lodge, so we’re trying to spruce it up and make it more family friendly.”
It’s been about 5 years since Sam’s last full album. He put out a 4 song EP last year. So Lon asked if he’s working on new music: “Yeah I’m working on it right now. We put out a song last fall called Liberty. But I would like to put out a full project next, as opposed to one song at a time. But I’m gonna have to dig in and come off the road to do it.”
So where are you at in this project? “I’m about halfway through. I figure if I take another month in the fall, then another one in the spring and summer. I’m probably gonna take next year off the road to make sure the album’s fully finished. The next single will be from the new batch.”
Sam also has great stories this week about Russell Dickerson, Riley Green, Jordan Davis, Brett Young, Kane Brown, and Luke Bryan.
