Jason Aldean Hosts John Morgan 4/12-13

| April 7, 2025

This wknd, Jason Aldean fills in for Lon and his co-host is his buddy John Morgan. They have a duet in the Top 5: Friends Like That. Jason also has a song in the Top 10: Whiskey Drink. John wrote three of Jason’s #1s as well as his current hit. You’ll hear how they met, and why Jason records John’s songs. John’s debut album “Carolina Blue” will be released on April 18.

Jason asked John about writing Friends Like That: “When we started, it was more of a serious thing. We got halfway through, and made it more lighthearted.  It wasn’t originally a duet.  It was already tee’d up, and just needed your thing on it. I’m stoked it went that way.”  Jason said, “I’m glad you asked me to be on it.”  John responded, “Me too.”

Jason later asked John if he remembered how they met: “I do, vividly.  It was middle of summer, and it was insanely hot. No AC in my truck.  My whole back was soaking wet.” Jason said, “I think I gave you some money and said, ‘Go get your truck fixed so you can make your writing appointments,” “You did, appreciate you for that.”

John had a hand in writing three of Jason’s recent hits, including “If I Didn’t Love You,” his duet with Carrie Underwood: “I feel like you were a couple days from finishing your album, and you had a slot open for a duet.  That one’s special for me, that was my first major cut on somebody. It was a career altering song for me as a writer.  Appreciate you.”

John is also a writer on Jason’s current Top 10 Whiskey Drink. “This one was fun. We could have made it too heady.  It has a cool twist, of talking to whiskey like its your friend.” Jason said, “I feel like you always write drinking songs. What’s up with that?” “Hey you always CUT drinking songs.  Don’t put that on me.” “I do. I love ’em.”

John described the making of the Friends Like That video: “The video starts with me in this fireworks shop. I’m getting some fireworks together, we’re gonna blow stuff up, and let some steam off.  We needed a place to do this, and you were cool enough to let us use your property.  It was pouring rain. We were able to get a shot off.  Thanks to Jason for gettin’ drenched with us and letting us use your property. I won’t forget it, that’s for sure.”

John also has great stories this week about Nate Smith, Riley Green, Dylan Scott, Chase Matthew, Kane Brown, and Kenny Chesney.
