Little Big Town Co-Hosts 8/29-30

The co-hosts this wknd are all four members of the band Little Big Town. Their new album, “It’s a Dying Art,” is available on Friday August 28th. They’re doing a theater tour this fall to play songs from the album. In addition, they talk about their experiences with George Strait, Lainey Wilson, Ella Langley, and Taylor Swift.

It’s been 4 years since the band’s last album. Lon asked them about the goals this time: “We wanted to make an album that didn’t have any boundaries. It was just about being creative.  We started finding these songs. You’ll hear nostalgic tidbits of production that we’ve always loved. That was the goal, to highlight the favorite things we’ve made for many years.”

The band spent several years on the road with George Strait.  Lon asked about their experiences: “Honestly Kimberly’s daughter spent the most time with him.  She’s friends with George’s grandkids.  What cracks me up is a she calls him granddaddy.  She’ll say, ‘I’m going to granddaddy’s bus.’  There’s a picture of her on the golf cart with George riding to the stage. She doesn’t understand who he is.  She just adores his grandkids. They’re on the road with him all the time.”

Karen recently appeared at Hardy’s charity event in Nashville with Ella Langley, Miranda Lambert, & Lainey Wilson: “I was about to go on, and I didn’t know they were gonna sing ‘Girl Crush’ with me.  They all walked out with me and sang with me.  Hardy goes, ‘This is a dream!’  It was so sweet and so much fun. Hardy & I couldn’t stop smiling.  I think we broke the internet that night.”

Karen talked about Ella’s incredible success with Choosin’ Texas: “People are still not tiring of that song. I watched Fallon there that night, and there’s Matthew McConnoughey singing Choosin’ Texas.  The way that launches into the chorus.  It’s easy to sing.  That’s another one where people 90 years old to 8 years old are all singing it.”

All four members of the band were guests at Taylor Swift’s wedding: “We saw a lot of people there.  We didn’t talk about it beforehand. We really don’t know what we can say now.  I feel comfortable saying it was a great time. As spectacular as it was, it was also warm & sweet.  That’s the magic of Taylor Swift.” 

There was such a wide array of people at the wedding.  Phillp recalls meeting Tom Cruise: “I was talking to Kane Brown at one of the bars, and up walked Tom Cruise. I was like, ‘I’m Phillip.’  He put his hand out. I asked, ‘What are you having to drink, Tom?’  I really didn’t know what to say.”
