Jason Aldean Co-Hosts 7/11-12

The co-host this wknd is Jason Aldean, who’s in our Top 5 with Don’t Tell On Me. He co-hosted while on vacation with his family in the Bahamas. “I’m gonna try to get in some fishing and golf before we kick off the tour.”

They began the show talking about Jason’s recent 31 #1s party in Nashville: “It was during Country Radio Seminar.  Every year we have a party, and that’s what I was told we were doing. When I got there, it was a party in my honor.  The first artist that walked out was Blake. It was a cool way to set the tone for the night, cool for him to be a part of it for us.”

Jason also took part in a dedication of a new arts center named for Randy Owen of Alabama. Lon was the MC for the event: “It was so fun. I’ve always said those guys were The Beatles for me. Any time I get to do anything with them or for them, I do it. It was an honor for me to be there for Randy.”

Lon noticed that Jason brought Memphis & Navy with him that night: “From the time they were two weeks old, they were on the bus and on the road.  That’s not new for them. They’re so used to it, they ask for their backstage pass and wander off on their own. They go all over, and know what they’re doing.”

Lon asked for an update on all the kids: “My oldest Keeley graduated from college. She got married about a year ago. Kendall is 18 and about to go to college. Then Memphis & Navy are in second and third grades.” Any grandkids yet?  “No, I told her to pump the brakes on that. Don’t be in a hurry. More for my sake I think. But it’ll happen when the time’s right.”

Speaking of the younger kids, they have a favorite artist on the radio: “I heard the song by Stella Lefty on the radio, and it wasn’t two days later, my kids are running around the house singing that song. That’s how you know you have a hit, when 7 & 8 year olds are singing it.”

Jason said he’s been in contact with Kane Brown since the golf accident: “My wife asked, ‘Did you hear Kane got hit by a golf ball?’  I didn’t realize how bad it was. It was like 150 miles an hour to the back of his ear. I figured one popped him on top of the head.  So he ended up having 20 stiches on his ear.  I sent him a text right after that.  I love Kane, I hate that happened to him, but he’s tough as a pine knot, so he’ll be fine.”

Last week Cole Swindell told us he shares a card collecting hobby with Jason: “Yeah I did that whole card collecting thing when I was a kid.  Then last year my son got into Pokémon cards.  I got into it from him. It’s something cool to do with Memphis.  Now I’ve got more cards than I know what to do with. I got an autographed card for Cooper Flagg that’s worth $10K.  I bought a box and found that card in the box.  We just spend money and they sit in a box.”

Jason also has great stories this week about Blake Shelton, Chris Janson, John Morgan, Russell Dickerson, and Florida Georgia Line.
