Josh Ross Co-Hosts 6/20-21

The co-host this wknd is Josh Ross, who’s in the Top 5 with “Hate How You Look.” This is his first time co-hosting. He just wrapped up a tour with Nate Smith. He has great stories about Tyler Hubbard, Morgan Wallen, Jelly Roll, and Dan + Shay.

Josh began the year at Luke Bryan’s Crash My Playa: “It was a hungover weekend for me.  We flew in Thursday night, had too much fun on Thursday, and had to play Friday.  I think I stayed in bed recovering all day til show time.  We played a midnight show, and then flew out the next morning.  So we didn’t see anything.”

Part of the fun was with Tucker Wetmore: “It got a little loose that night.  I think I was trying to ‘pants’ Tucker, daring each other to jump in the ocean, it was like the Olympics.  I can’t wait to go back.”

Josh just celebrated his 30th birthday: “This year was different.  Last year I did a big house party.  This year I was on tour in New York, just went out to dinner, it was more laid back,  But definitely a reflection on how far things have gone in the last three years.  I think it’s more appreciating where I’m at now.”

Josh will join Dan + Shay on the road this fall.  He told Lon he’s already hung out with Dan: “He came out to a couple shows.  I was at Barstool Nashville during CMA Fest, and he was there at midnight.  We hung out, went to another bar after that.  It’s been cool to hang out with him.”

Lon had two observations about Josh’s music: The first is his sad songs all have tempo. He breaks up sounding happy: “I wish that was the case.  But you’re right.  Single Again, you feel defeated that she’s taken. But it still feels good.  I never looked at it that way.”

Lon then asked, Do you ever get the girl? “Well I don’t know, hopefully here at some point. Some of them are more personal than others.  The album is so cool to look back, learning who I am now compared to then.  I haven’t got the girl yet.  Wait til I have one of those.  Everybody’s gonna be worried.”
