Thomas Rhett Baby Update
When Thomas Rhett co-hosted Country Countdown USA. he gave a lot of details behind the birth of his baby boy Brave.
Thomas told Lon: “It’s surreal. I thought after our 4th girl, it wasn’t in the cards for me to have a boy. When we were in the hospital, I thought it was gonna be another girl. Having that surprise was one of the coolest moments in my life. He’s a big baby, he was ten pounds, my wife is a super-hero. He’s got a bunch of built in big sister babysitters. It’s been a blast.”
Lon started by asking when they found out they were expecting? “Last January, we were actually planning to go to Uganda again for a whole year. We were starting the adoption process again. Then I came home father’s day weekend, and my father’s day gift was a positive pregnancy test. We had tried for a while to get pregnant one more time, and here we are with our first baby boy.”
Brave has four older sisters. How are they reacting? “They’re over the top. We don’t have to pay for a baby sitter any longer. We have a whole house of built in baby sitters.”
Lon asked about the name Brave Elijah: “We procrastinated on the name. We were drinking wine, and the name of the wine was Mount Brave. So I asked Lauren about the name Brave for a boy. We loved what that word meant for a boy or girl. But we couldn’t come up with a middle name. We were in the hospital, they gave us the birth certificate, and we still didn’t have a middle name. I was reading Elijah’s story in the Bible, and he led an incredible life. So we settled on Brave Elijah.”
Are you stopping at five? “That’s always been Lauren’s magic number of kids. I don’t think we’re gonna have any more kids. But it was the coolest thing in the world not to know if it was a boy or girl. I have never been more surprised. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but so worth it.”
Thomas went on to say only one person knew in advance if it was a boy or a girl: “Lauren shared the information with our interior designer. We were going to have to change our nursery from pink to blue if it was a boy. So she knew in advance. For her to not spill the beans to anyone in our circle was a miracle. She told us she needed 24 hours to make the changes. When we were at the hospital, we called her. At that point they ripped down the wallpaper and change things. Now it’s a bunch of camo and ducks on the walls. Just different colors from what we had with the girls. But it was a miracle she was able to keep it a secret.
Thomas went on to describe his life with five kids as chaos: “For some reason, we just continue to add to our lives. So many people think we’re insane. My rebuttal is I think it keeps us young. I never thought I’d be a new parent at 36. When I look 20 years down the road, I always envisioned our Thanksgiving table, and I don’t think I will ever wish I had less kids. It’s tough now to have 5 kids and do what I do for a living. It’s not for the faint of heart. But I’m over the moon and just grateful.”
