Tim McGraw Co-Hosts 11/11-12

| November 6, 2023

The co-host this wknd is Tim McGraw, who is in our Top 10 with “Standing Room Only.” That is also the title song of his new album. He previews his 2024 tour, his ACM Icon award, his wife Faith Hill and his three daughters. Plus why was he throwing fruit at Chris Janson? Find out this week.

Lon asked Tim if he’s achieved the “standing room only?”  Tim said: “No it’s a work in progress. You get up and stare at the mirror every morning, and say ‘I’ve got some work to do.’  If you don’t feel that way, you’re not staring hard enough.”

They also talked about the video, and Tim had this observation about the location: “To me that whole video is trying to get rid of the junk in your life.  There’s a lot of junk in my life that I need to get rid of, and that’s what that video represented to me. It’s a junkyard.”

In August, Tim received the ACM Icon Award: “That was a great night. I’m terrible speaker because I’m a weeper.  I couldn’t look at my family or I’d break down.  Faith has meant everything to me in my life, I feel fortunate that I way out-punted my coverage.”

Tim also gave us an update on his three daughters: “They’re doing great. Gracie is in New York working on a Broadway play. Maggie does policy work in Washington DC.  Audrey is a singer/songwriter and actor, so she’s pursuing that career. So they’re all doing very well.”

Tim’s father was baseball legend Tug McGraw, who won a world championship with the Philadelphia Phillies.  The team didn’t make it this year, but Tim told Lon he attended one of the playoff games: “I went to the first game of the NLCS with two of my brothers.  We got to hang out with some of the legends who were there, and they told me Tug stories all night.  I wore Tug’s world series ring.  I’m not going to go to a game without that.”

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Tim’s debut album. Lon asked if Tim likes to commemorate anniversaries: “I’m always looking forward. I don’t look back at things like that. I’m not good at reflecting. I feel like I got a lot of gas in the tank. I want to make music, and keep working on my craft.”

When Chris Janson was Lon’s co-host, he told us that he did a show with Tim last year, and that Tim was “throwing fruit” at him. Tim explained: “My only regret was I didn’t hit him. I have lemons on stage because they help when your throat is getting raw. Sometimes I’ll throw them in the audience or at the crew guys. I wanted to get under his chin to get him off the plate.”

Tim also has great stories this week about Brothers Osborne, Chris Janson, Taylor Swift, Tyler Hubbard, Carly Pearce, and Russell Dickerson.

NEXT WEEK: Dylan Scott
