Zach Top Co-Hosts 4/18-19

The co-host this wknd is Zach Top, who is in the Top 30 with South Of Sanity. He just received four ACM nominations including Male Vocalist and Album of the Year. He won the Grammy for Best Traditional Country Album.

Zach said this about the ACM nominations: “They keep throwing them my way.  I keep waiting for them to pull the rug back out from under me! But it’s wild, I didn’t expect to be embraced by the industry as much as I have.  It feels really good.  It’s gratifying that the industry has taken a liking to me. I’m grateful for it.”  

The four nominations are Male Vocal and Album, plus Single & Song of the Year for I Never Lie: “It’s funny that song came out in the spring of 2024.  It feels like it’s bigger than me. People may not know me or my name, but they know the line, ‘I sleep like a baby.’ Something I wrote has gained a bigger following than I myself have.”

Lon asked Zach who he met at the Grammy Awards: “The one that surprised me, I met Benson Boone at the Grammys, he told me he & his buddies listen to my music. I guess he’s also from Washington state.  That was a random one.”

Next week, Zach will open a show for George Strait in Lubbock: “That obviously is a bucketlist thing. He was the reason I fell in love with country music. He’s partially responsible for getting me in this mess.  I got to meet him a couple times, but haven’t really worked with him.  Obviously it will be incredible for me to work a show with him in Lubbock.”

The next night, Zach will open for Jason Aldean & Luke Bryan in Athens Georgia: “That’ll be fun too.  I think they were the last ones to do a show in that stadium. It’ll be kind of historic night, I suppose, I’m glad to be a part of it, it’ll be a big old party for sure.”

We know Zach loves to golf, and plays every chance he gets.  Lon asked if he attended the Masters last week: “I did! We went Thursday.  Last year I got to hang out at the practice round. But this was the first time seeing a competitive round.  Peyton Manning had me down, hanging out with him.  He’s good friends with Lainey & Duck, so I got the invite along with Duck. That was quite a time being at the Masters, and hanging out with Peyton was pretty dang cool for me.”

Zach also has great stories this week about Chris Young, Tucker Wetmore, Lainey Wilson, Chris Janson, Jelly Roll, and Randy Travis.
