Sam Hunt Co-Hosts 5/18-19

The co-host this wknd on Country Countdown USA is Sam Hunt, who is in our Top 5 with “Outskirts.” It’s the first hit from a just-released 4-song EP called Locked Up. Sam is about to kick off the Locked Up Tour with Russell Dickerson. He also talks about having two kids under the age of two.

Lon hosted this year’s UMG show during CRS at the Ryman Auditorium.  Sam was one of the performers: “It’s always a great event. That room is always full of positive energy from radio.  I can hear the room, that helps me lose myself in the song.  That’s easy to do at the Ryman.”

Sam & his wife Hannah have two children under the age of 2.  “I still just sit there and look at them, how did this happen? This feels like overnight.  Two years ago it was just the two of us. I’m lovin’ every bit of it.”

Sam’s new EP is called “Locked Up,” and the song was based on Sam’s arrest several years ago. “I try from my own personal experiences, but you want to make them relatable. So I made it more about the woman standing by her man through the adversity.  A lot of knucklehead guys can relate to that experience.

Sam is friends with Jordan Davis. A few years ago, they won a fishing trip to Costa Rico at a charity auction, but they’ve yet to take the trip. Sam said, “I hope there isn’t an expiration date on that trip.  I owe him, he took me on a duck hunt, which was an amazing trip.  We have a lot in common.”  

This year marks 10 years since Sam’s first single.  Lon attended a showcase for Sam at the House of Blues in Dallas: “It’s funny, I remember that show specifically because I finished the show, jumped off stage, and I smacked my head on it. That was back in the day.  We didn’t know what we were doing, but it worked out OK.”
