Tyler Hubbard Co-Hosts 5/11-12
The co-host this wknd on Country Countdown USA is Tyler Hubbard, who is in our Top 5 with ”Back Then Right Now.” He is currently on the road with Kane Brown. He just released his second solo album. He’s written songs with a lot of artists in the countdown, including Keith Urban, Old Dominion, Hardy, Megan Moroney, and Chris Young.
Tyler says his current hit resonates with where he is in his life: ”I’ve sort of been sitting in that nostalgic season a bit. I didn’t know if it’s from having kids, or what it is, but I’ve been missing how things used to be. Now it’s sitting in Top 5 on country radio.”
Tyler is on the road now with Kane Brown. ”His show is amazing, it’s an honor to be out with him. It really is full circle, he learned from us when he opened for FGL, and now I’m learning from him. It’s been a lot of fun.”
Lon asked Tyler to compare Kane’s growth, from back then to right now: ”He’s grown into a great performer. He’s been a sponge the whole time. It’s cool to see. Now he’s got a family, a lot to work for, you can see it in his life, he’s super-happy. It’s not the story you always hear, but the story you hope for.”
Have you & Kane written yet? “Yeah man we already wrote a song on the road. It was great, probably one of our best sessions together. Just really throwing in great lines, it was a fun session. I think it’s gonna be a song for him, but he knows if he doesn’t record it, I’ll probably close behind, because it’s good.”
Lon asked Tyler if there’s a song on the radio now that gets him to turn it up: ”I’m so glad you asked me that, because on my way here, I heard Dirt Cheap by Cody Johnson. It made me tear up. I haven’t been moved by a song in a long time. That one just hit me. That’s why we do it. To make you feel something, and that one does.”
Lon brought up the Paddle Royal event at this year’s Country Radio Seminar. “I didn’t know that was a thing, I love playing Ping Pong. Throw in the element of fans and the competition, it was a lot of fun. I’ve been talking trash ever since. It’s amazing how good you can get at ping pong if you went to youth group as a kid.”
Tyler also has great stories this week about Lainey Wilson, Jordan Davis, Nate Smith, Jelly Roll, Keith Urban, and Hardy.
