Tucker Wetmore Co-Hosts 9/5-6
The co-host this wknd is Tucker Wetmore, who was named the ACM New Male Artist of the Year. His new single is Who Told You That. His latest #1 is Brunette. He also just released a 6-song EP he calls the Sunburn Mixtape. Plus stories about a lor of Tucker’s friends in the Top 30.
Tucker Wetmore was on stage in London when he named the ACM New Male Artist of the Year: “My mom came on stage, and I was so confused. ‘Mom. what are you doing here? I’m working!’ I was super surprised. They stopped the show, and Thomas Rhett’s big head came on the video screen, talking about my golf game. Then he said, ‘Congratulations to the New Male Artist.’ The way it happened was exactly what I would have wanted. It was really cool.”
Lon spoke with Tucker on the day he celebrated his 3rd #1 song Brunette. He told Lon, “I’m excited. It’s gonna be a party tonight. It’s a great opportunity to put a spotlight on the writers. It’s awesome. We end our set with the song every night. It is so fun to play live. The first time I played it, the crowd lost their minds. Even the blonds are liking the song.”
Tucker recently released a 6-song EP named “Sunburn Mixtape:” Lon asked why now? “I wanted to put out some new music. I’ve been working on an album. But it wasn’t ready. My thought was let’s give the people something now. These are songs that are leading into sonically where I’m going with this next album. I’m a sucker for the summertime. So it felt like the right thing to do.”
That led Lon to ask about the direction of the next album: “I’m a sucker for the 70s and 80s. Back then they weren’t afraid to experiment with sounds. That’s what I’m exploring right now. Nostalgia is what I’m chasing. Something that feels familiar but it sounds new. Fresh but familiar. Let’s make something that people can’t help but get stuck in their head.”
Along the way, Tucker has been able to spend time with some country stars from the 90s: “We spent a night at Gary Allen’s house. I’m friends with Gary & his wife Molly. We spent 7 days together on a boat. But we also spent 4th of July at Gary’s house. We had a good time. It’s fun to hear some of his stories. If you’re ever having a bad day, go listen to Gary Allen’s catalog.”
Tucker also has great stories this week about Luke Bryan, Josh Ross, Dustin Lynch, George Birge, and Chase Matthew.
