Justin Moore Co-Hosts 3/28-29
The co-host this wknd is Justin Moore, who is in our Top 5 with Time’s Ticking. He is about to kick off a tour with Riley Green. He just returned from a family ski trip. He updates us on his four kids. Plus we get his thoughts on his friend Thomas Rhett having his 5th child.
Lon spoke with Justin by zoom. Justin was in his office in Arkansas, and Lon asked him about all the plaques and pictures on his wall: “There’s a Hank Williams album that my grandpa gave my grandma back in the day. They framed it and gave it to me. So it means a lot to me because of Hank as well as my relationship with my grandpa & grandma.” (see below photo)
Justin’s daughter Ella just turned 16 a couple weeks ago: “I just bought my daughter a car. It is the most bizarre feeling ever. You’re giving this piece of machinery to this baby, in your eyes. But you have to let them be independent. We’ve been soccer moms for their lives. Now we just send Ella. We go ‘Ella, go get your brother.’ She loves it because she wants to drive all the time. Now, I don’t want to drive ever.”
Lon asked Justin about the news that Thomas Rhett had his 5th child: “He’s out of his mind. I could have saved him a lot of money. I would have told him, ‘Just get a cat.’ I’m happy for them, good for him that he had a boy, but he can have that title. I’m too old. He’s about ten years behind me. I’m too old at this point.”
It’s been two years since his last album, so what’s the status of new music: “We wrote 30 songs for this next album. I think my next single will come from this new material. We just have to pick the song and record it. But I’m excited about this new music.”
Justin & his family sometimes go on ski vacations. He told Lon he just returned from one: “We just got back from skiing in Aspen, where I tore my MCL like an idiot. It didn’t require surgery. A meniscus would, and an ACL would, but my doctor said the MCL does not require surgery. So that’s good news. We’ve been taking the kids skiing for spring break for ten years. I was skiing the best I have in years. I was skiing with good skiers. I kept up with them for 4-5 runs. We went through this trick part. Then my knee went in one direction, and the rest of my leg went in the other. I knew from playing sports that it wasn’t good.”
As a result, Justin’s leg is in a brace to keep it from moving. (see below) But he said he’s going back out skiing next week: “We’re still going. We’ve been going to Steamboat. That’s our favorite. It’s kid friendly. So I was looking forward to it because my confidence was really high. I’ve been told as you get older, things will stop working. Your reaction time is slower.” Just another example of Justin’s song Time’s Ticking.
Justin also has great stories this week about Blake Shelton, Thomas Rhett, Riley Green, Dierks Bentley, and Ella Langley.
NEXT WEEK: Thomas Rhett
