Corey Kent Co-Hosts 6/21-22

| June 16, 2025

The co-host this wknd is Corey Kent, who is in the Top 5 with “This Heart.” Lon has the weekend off, and in his place will be Katie Neal. It’s Corey’s first time as co-host. He’s on the road now with Jon Pardi, and he tells Katie he has a very unusual pre-show ritual. He also previews his tour this summer with Morgan Wallen.

This is Corey’s first time to co-host. It’s also his birthday. “I’m excited to be part of the countdown. I’ve listened to this, so it’s fun to be a part of it.  I’m also celebrating my birthday playing a show with Morgan Wallen, and all my friends get to come to the show, So birthdays are better now.”

Corey told Katie about a prank he played on George Birge: “I have this alternate personality who’s name is Duane. He was George’s bass solo, and took an epic bass solo, just overshadowed George.  He had no idea until Duane did his thing.”

Corey has been on the road this year with Jon Pardi, and they started a new pre-show ritual: ” We take a shot, and then we do this thing called Taser Roulette, It’s like spin the bottle. Pardi’s crew watches us tase each other.”

Corey also did shows last year with Parker McCollum.  Katie was at the show at Red Rocks, and asked him about it: “He brought me on stage, and he said ‘Your song just went double platinum.’ I was standing next to Parker in the pouring rain.  I’ll never forget it.”

Katie played Corey some audio from Dustin Lynch, who first met Corey in 2012: “We played the Beta house at Oklahoma State.  I was a freshman there, I was in a college band, and we got to open for Dustin. He was on his first single.  It was pretty wild.  I had nothing going on at the time.  It’s a cool story about our relationship.”

Corey has also become friends with Koe Wetzel: “We were in Cabo together last year.  We smoked a lotta cigars, talks a lotta life, he lives about an hour down the road from me in Texas. I look up to Koe.”

Corey has a couple connections to Morgan Wallen.  First, he’s opening several shows for him this summer.  But his debut #1 was written by Morgan: “It was a great song.  But the fans made it a hit.  You can’t underestimate the power of the fans. They single-handedly gave us our first #1, and we celebrated in a van. We were in a red van celebrating we had the #1 song in country music. So I feel fortunate that it all happened the way it did.”

Corey also has great stories this week about Thomas Rhett, Eric Church, Jason Aldean, Jordan Davis, Koe Wetzel, and Cody Johnson.
