Blake Shelton Co-Hosts 4/25-26
The co-host this wknd is Blake Shelton, who is in our Top 10 with “Texas.” He will release his first new album in 4 years, “For Recreational Use Only,” on May 9th. He is working on a new reality TV show called “The Road.”
Blake told Lon he was re-energized making this album: “I didn’t realize how much I missed making music. I got super into it, and fired up like the early days of making records. I felt that way again, because it had been so long. I also didn’t know if the door would still be open for me. The excitement of watching Texas take off was even more inspiring, and lit more of a fire under me.”
The new album includes a new duet with his wife Gwen Stefani: “I don’t know if I’ll ever make another album without having a duet with her on it because it’s fun. There’s no formal ask anymore, it’s just a thing now with us.”
So why would someone who spent 23 seasons on The Voice want to do another TV talent show? “If you have a job where you work for somebody, you can’t help but think. ‘If I was the boss, I’d do it differently.’ That’s how The Road came about.”
They just shot the finale at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. So does Blake know who won? “I do. We had to clear the audience before we announced the winner. The cool thing was all three finalists felt they won because they got to play the Ryman. That was their bucketlist venue.”
Lon asked Blake if he would ever return to The Voice? “I think the door would still be open. Maybe not while I’m making another competition show on a different network. But I think it’s still open, and I look forward to going back and doing things here & there. The show changed my life.”
Blake also has great stories this week about Luke Bryan, Carly Pearce, Post Malone, Dan & Shay, Kane Brown, and Jelly Roll.
