Jelly Roll Co-Hosts 6/1-2

| May 27, 2024

The co-host this wknd is Jelly Roll. He just won the ACM Music Event of the Year for his song “Save Me,” featuring Lainey Wilson. Jelly has stories from the awards show in Texas, and the artists he hung out with. He recalls an intense beer pong game with Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, and Post Malone. He also talks about Luke Bryan’s Crash My Playa festival in Mexico.

Jelly spoke to Lon just days after the ACM Awards: “It was incredible and it meant so much to me because that song meant so much to me.  That song DID so much for me. It was my first ACM. I’ve now won a CMA, CMT, and ACM.”

Lon asked about the post awards parties: ”We went out and partied afterwards. Me, Aldean, Kane Brown, Post Malone ended up having an iconic beer pong battle. It got deep. Post & Kane are competitive. Kane is just a fierce competitor. It’s probably the coolest memory I’ve had in country music so far.”

The one person Jelly met who he’s never met before was Thomas Rhett: “I got to tell him how much of a fan I was of ‘Beer With Jesus.’  I told him I saw him do it years ago at CMA Fest.  I never shared that story with anyone, and I got to share it with him.”

Lon & Jelly were at Luke Bryan’s Crash My Playa in January: ”I invited myself to this event, and I already told them I’m coming back next year.  I’m now a regular. I want to host the pool party with Dustin Lynch next year.”

When we got to Chris Young’s song, Jelly talked about meeting him a long time ago at a Nashville bar: ”I had just got out of jail, and I interned at the local hip-hop station. I’ve never told this story.  I interned at the Cumulus station behind the Shoney’s.  I called my dad, told him I got off from work at 3, and he said, ‘Perfect there’s a new bar across the street.’  So we’ve been going to the Tin Roof for years.  That’s where we met Chris Young. He would buy my dad a beer. I was only at the radio station for a few months, and then went back to jail.”

Jelly also has great stories this week about Cody Johnson, Lainey Wlson, Baily Zimmerman, Morgan Wallen, and Kenny Chesney.

NEXT WEEK: Jelly Roll Part 2
