Russell Dickerson Co-Hosts 7/15-16

| July 10, 2023

This week’s co-host is Russell Dickerson, who just released a 5-song summer-themed EP titled “Three Months Two Streets Down.” Russell also has a song in the Top 30: “God Gave Me a Girl.” He’s about to begin his Big Wheels & Backroads tour. He & his wife are expecting their second son in the fall. Plus Russell shares his backstage experiences at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

Russell & his wife Kailey are expecting a baby boy in a couple months: “Our first baby was in covid. So we had a lot of time. Now it’s like, oh my gosh, we haven’t picked out a name yet, so it’s getting real.”

The summer EP began with a song Russell wrote with Shay Mooney of Dan & Shay: “We had this song called Ride The Wave, and it felt like summer love.  This whole EP is built around this song, and I didn’t want it to just be an album cut.  So we built the whole EP around this song.”

Another song came to him from his friend Thomas Rhett: “We were headed to dinner on a double date with our wives, and he gave me this song called ‘Down On The Beach.’ He said he wasn’t going to cut it, and it was written by Tyler Hubbard. When I told Tyler I was going to record it, he was so pumped.”

This fall, Russell will go out on the Big Wheels & Backroads tour. “It’s a goal we’ve been working towards for a long time.  We played every show with the same vision, and always envisioned playing arenas, and that’s what this is, and we’re so pumped.”

One catch is that they’re expecting their son to be born during the tour: “We have one show, it’s Birmingham that’s 4 days before the due date.  So I can be in my truck and get home in two hours.  If there’s one contraction, I’m gone.  But that’s the only concern.”

With his own arena tour kicking off, Russell has been doing research by attending shows by others. A few weeks ago, he saw Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour: “Man, life-changing! They had a little tent where her music friends could go. There was a guy there dancing around, singing, and I realized it was Lil Naz X. That set the tone of the night. Maren Morris was there too.  The fans gave us friendship bracelets.  It was cool to catch the Swifties.  I want that for my fans.”

Russell also has great stories this week about Sam Hunt, Kelsea Ballerini, Parmalee, Carly Pearce, Kane Brown, and Dan + Shay.
