Gabby Barrett Co-Hosts 1/14-15

| January 9, 2023

This week Gabby Barrett co-hosts the countdown for the first time. Her current Top 10 is “Pick Me Up.”

Gabby just celebrated Christmas with her two little kids: “I had a great Christmas.   My little two month old, I didn’t have to buy for him yet, but my little girl thoroughly enjoyed all the things she got. She’s playing with her makeup and her purse.  She’s a girly girl.  It was a quiet New Year’s for us with the little ones.  We didn’t stay up til midnight. We were in bed by 11.”

As the show began. Lon gave Gabby some good news: Her current hit Pick Me Up has just gone platinum: “Wow! That’s awesome. I have the best fans in the world. Country music fans are the most loyal fans I’ve ever seen. Very grateful to be in this format, and I love the song, so I’m glad other people do too.”

Gabby was a contestant on American Idol, where she first met Carrie Underwood: “She mentored on my season, and she’s somebody I always looked up to.  She was in my era of listening on the radio. Her & Miranda Lambert, and a few others.”

Lon asked Gabby about the first time she called Carrie for advice: “She had given me her phone number and told me to call if I need anything. I remember one day I was pulled over on the side of the road and called her phone, and asked ‘How did you keep things rolling after Idol.’  She gave me good advice about working all the time, and that’s what I did.”

Gabby recalls the first time she met Dierks Bentley: “I opened for him in Omaha, and I did my show, went back to my hotel, and got a call from my tour manager, who said ‘Dierks wants to know if you want to fly home tonight on his plane.’  I was like, me?  Yes! You can’t say no to that. We went back to the venue, he’s wrapping up his show, he runs off the stage, we ride to the airport, and hop in his plane, knees to knees, and he was a super-nice guy.  Huge fan of him forever.”

Gabby also had a story about Luke Combs: “I’m a big fan of his. He pitched me a song not too long ago. As soon as I heard it, I was like it really strikes a chord with me.  I’m definitely gonna put it on my next album coming out later this year. He was very adamant about the song and me recording it.  I think it’s an awesome song, and it’s coming out this year.”

Gabby’s husband Cade plays guitar in her band.  Lon asked if he might ever sing a duet with her: “Probably, there’s a good chance. There have been a lot of requests for that. Maybe on album two this year.  You never know.  I’ll let you know!”

Gabby also has great stories this week about Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Thomas Rhett, Keith Urban, and Kane Brown.

NEXT WEEK: Scotty McCreery
