Toby Breaks Ground For Kids

| July 1, 2012

Back in May, Toby Keith held his 8th annual charity golf tournament in Norman Oklahoma.  in addition to the tournament and charity auction, there was a groundbreaking ceremony for the OK Kid’s Korral.  Toby explained the purpose of the new center to Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton: “It’s been my dream for 9 years.  I worked with St. Jude in the 90s, and it’s a wonderful organization, and my home state didn’t have anything like that, so I said let’s do one here.  It’s taken us 9 years, and we just broke ground.  It’s a 16 room lodge, we bring you in, give you a room, it’s right across the street from the Children’s Hospital.  It’s a cool lodge, and it’s for kids, has everything a kid could want.”

There were a lot of cool items at the charity auction this year: “This is hilarious.  I a had a photo of 5 Presidents standing in the Oval Office, and it was signed by all five presidents.  It had Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan and George Sr.  And then I had a real old photo of the Three Stooges, and it had all three of their autographs, and the 3 Stooges brought more than the 5 Stooges.  The 3 Stooges raised $25,000, and the Presidents brought $15,000.”
