Brantley Gilbert’s Zac Brown Story

| July 8, 2012

Today, Brantley Gilbert and Zac Brown are both very successful country music stars, each with hit songs and dedicated fans.  But there was a time when both were a couple of unknown singers playing the clubs of their native Georgia.  That story came up when each of them co-hosted Country Countdown USA with Lon Helton.

Zac was on the show last month, and remembered it this way: “I’ve been crossing venues with Brantley for a long time.  I remember we played the Georgia Theater six years ago and Brantley opened up for us there.  I’m proud of him for sticking with it and continuing to push his way forward.”

Brantley remembers that Georgia Theater show differently: “Corey Smith actually headlined that night, and I’d been on the road with Corey for a while.  We had this acoustic show, I had one guy play with me, Corey had one guy play with him, and Zac actually went first that night.  So we went out on stage and Zac had his whole band’s out there, and he opened up with The Devil Went Down To Georgia, so it was a little difficult to follow for both of us, since we were acoustic.  I gotta hand it to him, he pulled a quick one on us, but it was awesome!”
