Morgan Wallen Co-Hosts 10/22-23
This week’s co-host is Morgan Wallen, who is wrapping up his 2022 Dangerous Tour. He just attended the Alabama-Tennessee football game: “I was in in Neyland Stadium watching the Vols beat the Tide. It was something I’ll never forget. I was in a suite with Kenny Chesney, Kelsea Ballerini, and Peyton Manning. It was cool. It was a good day for me. I might wear orange all week.”
Morgan mentioned Peyton Manning, and he told Lon they’ve become friends: “We talk a good amount. We talk every week or every other week. I talked to Peyton about co-hosting the CMAs with Luke Bryan. They’re both pretty funny. I’m sure they’ll throw a couple jabs at me. I’m ready. He’s come to a few of my shows. He came to the one in Denver and was at Seven Peaks too.”
In June, Morgan opened a stadium show for Eric Church: “I got to play an entire set, I think I played 90 minutes, and I told this story on stage. My first concert was Eric Church. I felt a genuine connection to what he was doing. That inspired me, made me work harder to become who I am. Eight years later, to be up there playing a show with him, it makes you happy. Anything is possible.”
Last Friday, Morgan was a special guest at Jason Aldean’s Nashville show: “Jason’s always been a good friend, it was a no-brainer to do that with him. I wanted to do one of his older songs, but I figured it would be better if we sang a couple popular songs. You Make It Easy and Whiskey Glasses. Miranda Lambert was there too.”
Morgan brought a guest with him to our studio. His 2-year old son Indie: “He probably tore up a bunch of stuff. He loves to run. He runs everywhere he goes. He ain’t talking good yet, but he’s started with the letters. He almost said ‘dad’ today. It makes me feel better than anything else. Knowing I’m gonna be an important part in his life, I think it makes me think about things differently. I try to enjoy these days as much as I can.”
The video for You Proof features Morgan in the back seat of a Dodge Charger: “We had a stunt driver, and she was a sick driver. Before we started, she told me to let her know if I got scared. It was fun.” Lon asked if he actually jumped out of the car: “No they wouldn’t let me. I tried. I wanted to do it, but they said they couldn’t let me do it.”
Morgan also has great stories this week about Jake Owen, Dierks Bentley, Jelly Roll, Keith Urban, and Kane Brown.
