Kip Moore’s Haunted House
Kip Moore has had a pair of #1 hits, but he still leads a very modest and simple life. In fact he still lives in the same small place he’s called home since before he had any success. He told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton that he thinks the place is haunted: “There have been a couple things that have happened that I didn’t understand. I remember one night, I woke up hearing someone sweeping outside the door. The most terrified I’ve ever been in that moment. It stopped, and then it started up again. It was sweeping, it was no doubt. Then I woke up to the most incredible loudest amount of noise you can imagine. It’ll happen for 3 or 4 seconds, and then it stops. It sounds like there’s a thousand people in one room who’ve decided ‘We’re gonna scare the somethin’ outta him right now, we’re gonna all go crazy at one time. I’m not sure what it is, but it’s pretty terrifying.”
So how does Kip explain it? “I think any house that was built before 1900 is haunted. Something bad has happened in a house that’s been around that long. I’ve never lived in any place nice. It’s just been dump after dump. A lot of it is I had no money. Since then, things are going better in my career, but I’ve chosen to live this way because it keeps the edge. It’s a tiny room, but it has everything I own, clothes, surfboards, and a guitar, crammed in one room. It makes me feel like I’m super hungry. There’s no TV, it’s dark, and depressing, and when I come home, all I want to do is write. I don’t want to get comfortable, because your edge dies. My manager said to me, ‘You can’t keep living like this.’ I’m a man if little means. I have no wife or kids, my focus is this, and I’m content living this way as long as I get good music out of it.”
