Kenny: Tour Pranks Have Begun

They have been friends for about 20 years, and as you can imagine, there is a long history of joking and kidding between these two superstars.  The last time these two were out, the jokes were often on the basketball court.  With the Brothers of the Sun tour just a few weeks old, Kenny told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton that the jokes have already begun: “He knows I’ve been working out hard, he knows I’ve been trying to lean my body down so I can fit on the jeans I wear on stage, so this started in rehearsals and it’s kept going.  I think he’s figured out that only on Sunday I can eat what I want.  But just to mess with my mind and test my will power, every day at rehearsal, I’d get a dessert delivered from McGraw!  I think he’s trying to do what he can so he can be skinnier than me.  So what I did was I didn’t touch it.  He sent a whole red velvet cake one day, and he knows I love red velvet cake.  He sent a bunch of cupcakes, a whole key lime pie, and every day it’s something different.  It’s pretty good.  So I’m in the process now, and it may take me a while to do what I want to do, but I’m working on it.  All the behind the scenes things have started with the desserts.”

Any response to the desserts?  Have to shot back?  “Not yet.  But mine is gonna be silent but violent. I’ll get him back.”

The joking and kidding goes back to when the two met, back in the early 90s.  Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton asked Tim about that first meeting, and played the tape for Kenny.  “He’s right about a lot of things.  We met at Mac’s Cafe. Tim had just started to put his career together.  I did concentrate on songwriting first.  I don’t remember playing Atari.  We had a lot of fun.  We’re still having fun.  From that apartment complex to being on the stages we’re on now is mind-blowing.  When we were dreaming, we didn’t dream that.  Period.  The idea of playing these stadiums, and where the journey has taken us, you couldn’t have dreamed that.
