Carrie’s Legs: They’re My Card!

| June 2, 2012

One look at the cover photo of Carrie Underwood’s new CD Blown Away is all it takes.  She’s got legs!  Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton asked her about her legs: “That’s my card!  Everybody has a card they can play, and that’s mine.  I work really hard, I’m all about physical health, and make sure I can keep myself healthy.  So I’m all about it.  I’m 5 foot three, and don’t feel I’m too blessed in any other area, so I work hard for it.

At what point did you realize it was your card? “I remember the time, there were two awards shows back to back, the first was the ACMs, I got to sing ‘Before He Cheats,’ and my stylist had this dress and she said ‘We’re gonna shorten it a bit.’  And I put it on, and I was like, ‘Where’s the rest of this dress?  Can I put some tights on?  So I rolled with it, and there was a big buzz.  It wasn’t bad, it was like, ‘We didn’t know those were there.’  And I didn’t either.  Then at the AMAs, I wore shorts, I’d been working out, and that was another time, so it’s like, that’s my thing!”

The album cover is very striking:  “There was a lot going on.  In the photo I look so composed.  The dress was heavy and it needed to get picked up by the wind, like ‘blown away,’ we didn’t want it flat, but the fans wouldn’t pick the dress up.  So I had to throw the dress up, and look sexy, look hot.  So between every shot, I’m like, throw the dress up and then pose.  I was standing on bricks with 6 inch heels trying to balance myself.

This dress was a piece of dress too: “There was a lot of dress.  There’s a lot going on.  I wanted it to be striking, because I feel the album is very strong and powerful in a lot of songs.  I wanted the cover to be fierce and powerful and strong.  That’s what it’s all about.  If you look at it, I kinda look like an X-Man, like I’m Storm, I’m a powerful female presence.  Wait, did I say I look like an X-Man?  That’s kinda weird.  I don’t know why I said that.”
