Taylor Takes Top AMA Prize
Taylor Swift swept the American Music Awards, taking the Country Female, Country Album, and the top prize, the all-genre Artist Of The Year. She beat pop stars Lady Gaga and Katy Perry for the honor, and Taylor was clearly amazed to be holding the award. In other country categories, Blake Shelton won Country Male, and Lady Antebellum won for Country Group.
Taylor, who was also named AMA Artist of the Year in 2009, is the first artist ever to win AMA Artist of the Year more than once. Sunday’s awards bring her career total AMA wins to 10.
Last month, Taylor won Entertainer of the Year at the 2011 CMA Awards, her second time to claim Country music’s highest honor. Earlier this year, she was awarded the Entertainer of the Year statue by the ACM, and Taylor will be honored as the 2011 Woman of the Year next week at Billboard’s annual Women In Music event.
Taylor’s AMA wins came on the eve of the first of two sold-out nights at Madison Square Garden, the final shows of the year on her blockbuster Speak Now World Tour. The tour played to capacity crowds in stadiums and arenas over 98 shows in 17 countries spanning three continents this year, and will continue in 2012 with shows Australia and New Zealand.
As Taylor’s fans know, 13 is her lucky number. Artist of the Year was the night’s thirteenth and final award.
