Lainey Wilson Co-Hosts 2/8-9

| February 3, 2025

The co-host this wknd is Lainey Wilson, who’s in our Top 5 with 4X4XU. She just returned from Luke Bryan’s Crash My Playa festival in Mexico. She talked about co-hosting the CMA Awards with Luke & Peyton Manning. She also reveals the life advice she received from Keith Urban.

She pulled up in a 4X4 Ford Bronco. “I’m a Ford girl.  I just got me a Bronco.  I said I wasn’t gonna be the artist who wrote about trucks, but I write what I know.”

She came to our studio from another studio, where she was recording a duet.  Lon wanted to know who it was with: “I can’t tell you right now! They gonna slap my hand. It’s a quick turn around.  Somethin’ I’m proud to be a part of and somethin’ I’ve not done.  It’s real cool. I’ll tell you after we’re done.”

She just returned from Luke Bryan‘s Crash My Playa in Mexico.  She told Lon, “Luke Bryan can throw a party. He brought me this huge margarita glass with watermelon moonshine and a watermelon in it.  He asked, ‘You want to join me for Country Girl Shake It For Me?’  I said, ‘You want me to shake it? That ain’t happenin.’ I’m gonna sit down.'”

A few months ago, she’s co-hosted the CMA Awards with Luke Bryan & Peyton Manning. She told Lon she talks to Luke a lot: “He Facetimes me & my boyfriend Duck all the time.  The other day, he called Duck and said, ‘Hey man, I’m going to Arkansas to go hunting if you want to join me.’ I’m like, I can duck hunt too.  What about me?  Peyton & Duck are also buddies.”

Lon pointed out there’s a song on Lainey’s new album that needs a revision: “Bar In Baton Rouge” has a line that it don’t snow in Louisiana: “I thought the same thing!  They got 12 inches in New Orleans.  It snowed one time in 2000 and we thought the world was ending.  Sometimes it snows in Louisiana!”

Lainey performed at halftime of the Dallas Cowboys football game on Thanksgiving.  Her special guest was Jelly Roll: “This is how Jelly does stuff.  He don’t need to get there early, he gets there on time.  He was in Nashville the night before.  Jelly rolls in by the hair of his chinny chin-chin!  I was ready to do it myself.  Then he showed up.”

Lainey also has great stories this week about Blake Shelton, Drew Baldridge, Cody Johnson, Megan Moroney, Keith Urban, Zach Top, and Post Malone.

NEXT WEEK: Dierks Bentley
