Two Dylans Co-Host 1/4-5

The co-hosts this week are Dylan Marlowe & Dylan Scott, who’re in our Top 5 with “Boys Back Home.” The guys tell the story about writing the song, getting together for the duet, and then shooting the video. Plus Dylan Scott is in our Top 15 with his solo song “This Town’s Been Too Good To Us.” Dylan Marlowe wrote the #1 hit “Last Night Lonely” for Jon Pardi. He was on the road last summer with Dan & Shay.

When Dylan Marlowe came in, he was very proud of his new cover-alls that he was wearing. He told us he just bought them at a Tractor Supply store. Dylan Scott was saying he just got a haircut. It had grown out during the summer, and he cut it for the holidays. He said his wife prefers it short.

Dylan Marlowe wrote Boys Back Home about 5 years ago. “I had just moved to Nashville, and got a little homesick, missing the dudes I grew up with.  We also thought there were too many songs about girls. So we wanted to write one for the boys.  Then it sat in my phone until we went on tour with him.”

The duet came about in 2022 when Dylan Marlowe was on the road with Dylan Scott. “He played me several songs, and when he played it, it was like, man, I want that song.  So I was like, do I propose to do it together or do I do it myself.  Let’s do it together.”

That was before Marlowe had a record deal: Scott told Lon: “What people don’t know is we went in and recorded this song in 2022.  Then it sat there for a year.” Marlowe said, “Then I got a record deal, and they asked about the Boys Back Home song.  So I texted Dylan, and said we could still do this.  It finally worked out where I had a deal, and it was better timing.”

Lon asked Dylan Scott why he wanted to do it as a duet: “I thought the two-Dylan thing was cool.  The song was cool, and we hit it off on the tour. I never had anybody who offered to help me out.  It was too good of a song, he was too good of a dude, and it all made sense to me.”

The video for the song features celebrity cameo by Russell Dickerson. “At first. he was like, ‘If you do a remix, I want to be on it.’  But we already put it out.  So then he asked to be in the video.  We did the video all day, and for the last hour, Russell showed up, and we just partied.”

There’s a song on Dylan Marlowe’s album called “Deer On The Wall.”  At the same time, Dylan Scott’s current hit has a line about “Bucks On the Wall.”  So Lon asked Scott about that: “I have no bucks on my wall.  I built a party cabin on my property, and it has a big wall for all of them.”

Then Lon asked Marlowe about Deer On The Wall:” When we got engaged, I was already living at the house.  So I hung it up without permission.  I have a few more now and she won’t let me hang them up.  I may wait until she leaves one day and hang a few more up.”  Scott added, “I’ll help you hang them up.”
