Dustin Lynch Co-Hosts 9/7-8

| September 2, 2024

The co-host this wknd is Dustin Lynch, who’s in the Top 5 this week with Chevrolet. He explains how Jelly Roll became part of the song, and has some interesting stories about the making of the video. He & Lon were at this year’s Crash My Playa, so they have some stories about that. They also look ahead to next year’s 10th anniversary of Crash My Playa in Mexico.

The video for “Chevrolet” featured some actors from Dustin’s hometown. “They’re both local kids, and the girl’s parents told me she’s never kissed a boy before.  Another fun fact, the guy in the video twisted his ankle in one of the scenes midway through the video shoot.  He ended up toughing it out.  There’s always drama on the video shoot.”

Dustin has appeared at all 9 Crash My Playa festivals hosted by Luke Bryan.  Lon attended the festival this year, so they talk about the event. “This year’s theme was taken from the Roman Empire.  So I came in with the full outfit.  But I didn’t think through that the crowd’s gonna be below me, looking up my skirt the whole time.”

Dustin spent a couple months on tour with Blake Shelton: “We’ve been texting a lot these last few weeks because hunting season starts soon. We’re getting our tree stands ready.  I’m going out to his place to hunt in October.  We tried to Facetime during our show a few weeks ago, but he didn’t answer.  So he was probably sleeping.”

Dustin also spent some time with Blake’s duet partner Post Malone: “Got to go to Bonnaroo for the first time. Had the day off, some mutual friends work with Post.  So I got to hang out with Post.  But he smoked me at beer pong. He’s really good at it.  I wasn’t on my A game that night.”

Over the years, Dustin has talked about getting his pilot’s license.  He’s now flying his own plane to shows: “I now have a four-seater, and I took my mom & dad to some shows over the weekend.  My mom doesn’t like to fly.  But when we got back, she told me, ‘Anytime you want to fly, I’m in.  This is the way to go.'”

This week’s #1 song is the first for Drew Baldridge.  So Lon & Dustin called him up to congratulate him. “So many tears, lots of emotions, doing it ourselves. When we started on this journey I never dreamed we’d go to #1.  I’ve been in Nashville for 13 years.  I can’t believe we’re here now.  It’s life-changing for us.”

Dustin also congratulated Drew: “I think the last time we got together was this time last year, we got to go dove hunting together.  But for you to believe in a song this much and figure out the game, you gotta write a book on how to do this.”

Drew’s closing words: “I think it’s a good message for anybody whatever business you’re in: Don’t give up on something you believe in.  If you feel it’s gonna work, go chase it.  Go get it.  It can happen!”

Dustin also has great stories this week about Kane Brown, Bailey Zimmerman, Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban, and Thomas Rhett.
