Zach Top Co-Hosts May 3-4
The co-host this week is Zach Top, who is in our Top 10 with “I Never Lie.” Zach was just named the ACM New Male Artist of the Year. He’s about to hit the road with Dierks Bentley. His previous hit was Sounds Like The Radio. He tells us how he grew up in Washington State loving country music, and then moved to Nashville.
Zach was just named New Male Artist of the Year from the ACM. “If I’m dreamin.’ don’t nobody pinch me!” Zach will perform on the show next Thursday night.
Zach is about to hit the road with Dierks Bentley for his Broken Branches Tour. Zach said: “I’m about to get my butt beat in pickleball. I hear they’re a big pickleball crew, I’ll have to knock some rust off there, see if I can hang with them. Hopefully do some fishing too.”
Zach is opening a show for Alan Jackson in May. He told Lon he got to meet Alan a couple weeks ago: “It was funny. There aren’t many people who make me starstruck, but I was definitely starstruck meeting Alan. He was in the Top 5 of my childhood, so I was just a fan when I met him.”
Zach is part of a pick-up basketball league in Nashville. Several artists are part of the same group, including Jelly Roll: “We started doing that on Monday nights, and Jelly plays out there too. He’s on his program losing weight, he’s out there running with us. He’ll hit some outside shots, and it’s like, dang Jelly, where’d you come up with that? Probably in prison.”
Zach just returned from a tour of Australia. He did some sightseeing too: “The last day we were there, I wanted to do a snorkel trip. As we were hanging in the water, a guy came by on a jetski telling everyone to get out of the water. They’d seen a16 foot great white nearby. So I almost saw a shark.”
Has Zach come to grips with his newfound fame? “I’m just happy I get to sing & play every night and call it a job. I got a pretty buzzy name in country music. The shows have grown to where I can’t go out during the day without starting a meet & greet line! But I love it.”
Zach also has great stories this week about Luke Bryan, Lainey Wilson, John Morgan, LoCash, Jon Pardi, and Alan Jackson.
