Jelly Roll Co-Hosts 3/1-2
The co-host this wknd is Jelly Roll, who is in our Top 5 with Liar. He just opened his own bar in downtown Nashville. He was named Artist In Residence at American Idol. He will spend the summer on tour with Post Malone. He was part of a panel last week with Eric Church at Country Radio Seminar.
The last panel at CRS last week was “A Conversation with Eric Church & Jelly Roll.” Lon was in the audience, and asked Jelly about it: “That was a real conversation. This is what we would have talked about if I saw him backstage. This is how we interact. I really trust him.”
Lon then asked what happened afterwards: “He gave me a hug, and said, ‘Anything, anytime.’ But I want to see one of those Hornets games. We set up a date for both of us to see a game.”
Jelly performed at his record label’s show on Thursday: “It was cool they let me close it with a Garth Brooks song. I love that song, we cover it every night anyway. The coolest part was having the whole label come out and sing the last chorus with me.”
Jelly also opened his new bar, Goodnight Nashville: “My wife has her own bar in the club, and it’s so unique to Nashville. I’m so proud to be the first Nashville kid to have his name on a bar. I hope the town feels the same way. It’s really cool the culture they’re building down there.”
Jelly attended the CRS New Faces show. He said he wanted to see Drew Baldridge: “I think Tough People is such a great song. It’s old school story-telling country. My favorite line is ‘She fought so hard til she rang that bell in Memphis.’ That’s the country music I love. I almost cried his whole set”
Lon asked him about singing with Lainey Wilson at the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game: “Let tell you my best part of that experience. I had no clue how I was getting to the stage. What I didn’t know was you could see me on the side of the stage. It was supposed to be a surprise. There were people on TikTok laughing about that.”
Jelly also has great stories this week about Blake Shelton, Kelsea Ballerini, Cody Johnson, Zach Top, and Jason Aldean.
