Dierks Bentley Co-Hosts 2/15-16
The co-host this week is Dierks Bentley, who has a lot of exciting news to share. It’s been two years since he co-hosted the countdown. A lot has happened since then, and he updates us on his music, his kids, and his hobbies, including his new brand of whiskey.
As the show began, Dierks told Lon, “Every country singer will tell you it’s great to be here because you’re hanging out with Lon, and something good is happening in your career if you’re hanging out with Lon. I’m so happy to be back with you!”
The “something good” happening for Dierks is the release of a new song called “She Hates Me.” “We didn’t plan on this happening, but I played it for my kids, and they loved the song. We went in and recorded it, and so much fun in the studio. This song rose to the top, and it’s sort of the anti-Valentine’s Day song.”
Dierks also gave us a preview of the song’s video: “It had to be expensive. We took over a house, and proceeded to destroy everything in the house. Complete destruction, and that was just the house. It’s been a while since I did the acting thing in a video. It was a 15 hour day, and it turned out really great.”
Dierks has been spending a lot of time at home, so he gave us an update on his three kids, starting with oldest daughter Evie: “She’s been singing the National Anthem. We watched her sing before a high school basketball game. My other daughter Jordin does musical theater. Then my youngest Knox is 11 and loves hockey.”
Lon asked if Evie is dating: “There’s some stuff going on. It’s pretty benign right now. They’re on their phones a lot. We hosted a party at our house with 60 teenagers. We turned our garage into a party room. We’re now those parents who host parties at our house.”
Over the years, we’ve heard that Dierks takes ice baths while on the road. Lon asked if he keeps them up while at home: “I’m fortunate enough to have a pool at my house, so I use it in the winter. I’m water activated. They say anything under 55 degrees has the same effect as an ice bath.”
Dierks told us he had an interesting encounter a few weeks ago: “I ran into LoCash while in DC. They’re hanging out with Mike Love of the Beach Boys. So I talked with him for about an hour and a half. He’s about 84 years old, and sharp as a tack. It was an amazing night.”
Upcoming: Look for a tour announcement very soon. Also, Dierks says he will appear on the Opry 100 TV show in March. “I’m doing a Charlie Daniels mashup with some other Opry members, and do a tribute to him.”
Dierks also has great stories this week about Jordan Davis, Hardy, Zach Top, Kelsea Ballerini, Dustin Lynch, and Luke Bryan.
