Luke Bryan Co-Hosts 9/28-29

| September 23, 2024

The co-host this wknd is Luke Bryan, who is in the Top 5 with “Love You, Miss You, Mean It.” His long-awaited 8th album, “Mind of a Country Boy,” is out September 27. He talks about the album, Crash My Playa, and American Idol.

Lon attended Luke’s album release party at a farm outside Nashville: “That was fun, we did some songs kind of acoustic, getting a bunch of music business people in a room, letting them celebrate having songs on the album is pretty special.”

One story that came from that party has to do with the title song from Luke’s album, written by Rhett Akins: “We finished writing the song, and I loved the song, but I wasn’t focused on recording any songs yet.  Then someone called me to say Rhett’s son Thomas Rhett had the song on hold. He didn’t know I wrote it.  But him doing that made me realize it was a great song.  If he hadn’t done that, I might have missed it.”

Lon also attended Luke’s Crash My Playa this year.  He told Luke, “Tell me you’re not taking random cups from the audience and drinking from them.” Luke replied: “Hey, I’m all about immune health, and building a healthy immune system.  Hopefully what happens in Mexico stays in Mexico.  There’s enough alcohol in those drinks to kill all the funky stuff.”

Also at Crash My Playa this year was Bailey Zimmerman.  He made quite an impression on Luke: “I don’t think Bailey had clothes on the whole week. He missed a chance to be a nudist.  He’s a trip. He makes me smile.  His energy is so infection, and he missed his opportunity to be a nudist.”

Luke has begun work on Season 8 of American Idol: “We’re just starting auditions. Really excited to have Carrie Underwood sitting next to me.  Nobody knows the inner workings of Idol better than Carrie. They kept it quiet about who they were considering. They leaked some names.  Then they told us Carrie signed on, but they hadn’t announced it yet.  I saw her at the Toby Keith tribute and we winked at each other.”

Luke also has great stories this week about Jason Aldean, Jon Pardi, Jackson Dean, Zach Top, and Dustin Lynch.
