Chris Young Co-Hosts 8/31-9/1

| August 26, 2024

The co-host this wknd is Chris Young, who’s in out Top 10 with “Young Love & Saturday Night.” Chris talks about the song, which is based on a riff by David Bowie. Chris headlined Nashville’s 4th of July show this year. He also did a tour of Australia. He recently opened a show for Alan Jackson.

If you watch the video for Chris’ current hit, there’s something you may not know: “It looks like we’re on a beach, but we’re actually on a lake north of Nashville.  The only bad thing was after we shot the video, the place was overrun with bugs because of the lights.  The entire time, we were trying not to have bugs fly in our face.  But it was the easiest video I’ve ever done.”

Chris recently opened a show for his buddy Kane Brown: “I don’t open for anyone at this point in my career. But this felt full circle because he opened for me. I didn’t know if his fans would like me, and it was amazing.”

Chris also had the chance to open for Alan Jackson: “This is somebody I grew up listening to, and he was one of the first tours I opened.  I look up to him as a songwriter.  I don’t know there are many who can compete with him. It’s his farewell tour.  I’ve been lucky enough to play a couple of those and both were just incredible.”

There are just a few dates left in Chris’ schedule, and then he’ll have some time off for a special project that he didn’t want to talk about: “There’s a project people don’t know about that we haven’t announced. I don’t wanna say it yet. But I may or may not be writing a book that has nothing to do with the music business.  It is a fiction novel.  Something that I’ve not attempted before, but always had it in the back of my mind.”

Several times during the show, Chris talked about various bars in downtown Nashville.  That caused Lon to ask why Chris hasn’t opened his own bar yet: “There are a lot of them right now. I will also say I have looked into it before, but I haven’t found the right time or location.  I would say it would probably be named ‘Famous Friends.; Who knows.  It’s something that I’ve looked at.”

When we got to the current hit for Justin Moore, Chris told this story: “Way back in the day, we played this club, and there was a wall where people signed their name.  I went to the top left corner and signed my name.  And I knew he was coming there the next week, so I drew a square and wrote ‘This spot reserved for Justin Moore.’  A week later, I get a text with a picture of someone holding him in the air so he can sign in the box, and he was like, ‘I hate you!'”

Chris also has great stories this week about Tyler Hubbard, Riley Green, Bryan Martin, Keith Urban, and Dan + Shay.

NEXT WEEK: Dustin Lynch
