Morgan Wallen Co-Hosts 8/12-13
This week’s co-host is Morgan Wallen, who has two songs in the week’s Top 20. He’s on the road with his sold-out stadium tour this summer. He talks about his friends Hardy, Bailey Zimmerman, Jason Aldean, Lainey Wilson, Luke Bryan, and Jelly Roll.
The current hit is “Everything I Love.” Plus, his 3-week #1 “Last Night.” Morgan says, “I usually play it in the encore. My encore is pretty crazy. It’s one of the bright spots for sure. I couldn’t figure out where to put it in my set, but it’s been going pretty well.”
Morgan has been on his One Night At a Time tour, and it’s his first time playing stadiums: “You get nervous beforehand, we’re like what if this flops? ‘What if we put these stadiums on sale and there’s nobody there?’ But it obviously didn’t go that way. My tickets didn’t go on public sale. They were all gone on the presale. It’s just unbelievable. I wish I can play a thousand shows, but I had to cut it odd at some point.”
Joining Morgan all year is Bailey Zimmerman: “Bailey’s a good kid. I’ve spent a lot of time with him. He’s got an insane amount of energy and passion. He’s really blowing up right now. I’m excited to have him out on our with me this year. He’s a small town kid like me, kinda like myself, I’m proud of him.”
A sold out stadium tour is probably the ultimate for a performer. You think of who’s done it: Garth Brooks, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, and now Morgan Wallen: “I know it’s hard to imagine where you go from there. It’s obviously really cool. I’m always trying to make new goals. As far as touring goes, my #1 goal in selling out Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.”
Morgan says he often goes to Luke Bryan for advice. He recently asked him about buying property: “He’s the person I call the most for business advice. But I still haven’t bought a farm yet. I’m so busy. But I’m looking for a good size, because when I’m home, I spend a lot of time there.”
Next week, Morgan will play three nights in Boston’s Fenway Park: “I’m obviously a big baseball fan, so anytime we get to play a legendary place like that, I’m excited.” Joining him all three nights will be Parker McCollum: “I’m a huge fan of his. I think it’ll be a good experience for everybody.”
Morgan also has great stories this week about Tyler Hubbard, Lainey Wilson, Jason Aldean, Dylan Scott, and Thomas Rhett
