Shania Twain Rocks Nashville
It was a memorable night on both sides of the stage as Shania Twain brought her Rock This Country tour into Nashville. It was emotional for Shania because she first came to Nashville 30 years ago to get in the music business. She told the sold out crowd, “I really feel overwhelmed being here. I’m really kind of nervous. But I feel like I’m home again.”
If she was nervous, it didn’t show, as she moved around the stage singing the hits that made her famous. Her new blond hair was on full display. There were also several amazing costume changes, showing the audience that she’s still in great shape 20 years after her first #1, “Any Man of Mine.” It was that song, and the video with the bare midriff, that got her noticed, and launched an amazing career. That song was half-way into her set list, and she left the stage to travel around the arena on a small chariot, singing and waving to the crowd.
Another show stopping moment came when she did a short acoustic set, where she did “Today Is Your Day,” the song she wrote after her divorce in 2011. She also did her #1 “No One Needs To Know,” and then told the audience, “After all this time, Nashville, you’re still the one.” At that point, she did her big crossover hit from 1998: “You’re Still The One.” She sang all of her hits, including “Love Gets Me Every Time,” “You Win My Love,” and “That Don’t Impress Me Much.
She ended the show with her 1995 #1 “(If You’re Not In It For Love) I’m Outta Here.” At that point, she disappeared under the stage, and later emerged in the black leather cat-suit and cape in the above photo for her fireworks and confetti filled encore, “Man I Feel Like a Woman.”
Earlier this year, Shania announced that this would be her final tour. She told Country Countdown USA: “I’m looking forward to having fun with the audience. I’m out there to celebrate rocking country music, and doing it with the people. Getting on stage is when you share that music together. So I treasure the time I can share all the work I did with them in public. There’s no way I’m staying on that stage the whole night. I need to touch them and see them up close. That’s from my bar days, singing in clubs, and that was how I grew up. That’s a big part of who I am as an entertainer.”
Shania is working on a new album that she’ll release next year. She told us, “It’s going to be quite different from what I’ve done before. I’m writing it all myself at the moment. I’m indulging in my own musical direction. People will recognize it as me, because I’m being true to myself. But it’s hard to put it into words.”
Personally, Shania will celebrate her 50th birthday on August 28th. She’ll take a break from her tour to celebrate that, and then continue the second leg of the tour through the end of October.
