Justin Moore’s Best Night Ever

| June 14, 2014

moore-gilbertJustin  Moore is a huge baseball fan.  In fact he’ll tell you that one great benefit of being a country star is it gets him a lot of access at baseball parks.  Justin talked about several recent experiences with Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton:

We often hear stories from our co-hosts that surprise us.  Recently, David Nail told us he ran into you one night in the Boston Red Sox locker room: “That’s true.  Me being a lifelong baseball fan, and it was the first time I’d been to Fenway Park.  I had two or three days off, and I told my guys we should go to Fenway.  So we flew to Boston, and I got a text that invited me to meet Jake Peavy, who pitches for the Sox.  So I go back after the game, met Jake, and in walks David Nail.  It was like, what in the world is going on here?  We sat up til 3 AM, had a couple of drinks, told some lies, and it was one of the coolest nights of my life.  Then they went on to win the World Series.  What a way to experience Fenway for the first time.  I actually got to shag fly balls, crow-hopping, throwing it into second.  They did an unbelievable job of renovating it.”

How about Wrigley in Chicago?  “That’s my favorite ball part in the world.  I love that Wrigley and the Cub fans have been sticking to tradition.  I’m not a Cubs fan, but every time I go to Chicago, I go to a game.  And I’ll go through there if I’m anywhere near it.  It’s my favorite city.  It’s awesome.  I love history, and there’s lot of it there.”

I saw a picture of you and Brantley Gilbert taking batting practice in Cincinnati.  How’d that come about? “I was off in Cincinnati on a Saturday night, and Brantley was on tour with Tim McGraw.  So I called Brantley to hang out, and he said he was going to the ball park to take batting practice.  I knew some of the guys who played for the Reds at the time.  So I said I’ll do that with you.  I love the perks.  It’s the best part of the business.”

I know that both you & Joe Nichols are from Arkansas.  He’s a big Cardinals fan.  How about you? “I’m not a Cardinal fan.  A lot of Arkansas fans are either Cardinal fans or Braves fan.  I grew up in the generation that watched the Braves on TV.  They were winning at the time, they were the team of the South, so that was always my team growing up, and they’re still my team.”
