Blake Shelton’s Busy Week

| November 2, 2013

Blake & Miranda CMA 2012A few weeks ago, it was reported that Blake Shelton had personally lobbied NBC to move a special live edition of The Voice from Wednesday November 6th, which would have put it up against ABC’s broadcast of the CMA Awards.  This week, Blake shared details of his efforts with Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton:

“I felt stupid doing it, but you get desperate.  It was the one week a year that The Voice would be three nights a week, it was a live results show, and when we found that out and the found out when the CMAs were, it was a disaster to me.  I have a job, I have bosses here when I’m doing The Voice, but don’t get in the way of my country music night, that’s a big deal to me, so I groveled, I called everybody I could think of including the head guy at NBC, Bob Greenblatt (Chairman of NBC Entertainment), and finally I got a call from a guy who said, ‘We know how important that night is.  It’s actually important to The Voice that you’re there, because we want you to be seen in that spotlight.  It brings more credibility to what we do here.  So we’re going to move that results show.’ So I’m going to work here in LA Monday and Tuesday nights  doing live shows for The Voice, then Tuesday night fly to Nashville, be on the CMAs, after the CMAs are over, get on a plane and fly to LA and do the Thursday night Voice.  At that point, I’ll be in  such a drunken blur, I may not remember where I’m at.”
