Blake Loves Miranda’s New Duet
Blake Shelton isn’t jealous that his wife is singing with another man. In fact, he’s a huge fan! Blake told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton that he hopes Miranda’s current duet with Keith Urban, “We Were Us,” goes all the way to #1: “I’ll tell you an interesting story. The co-writer of that song, Nicole Galyon, was a contestant on The Voice (Season 2). So I’ve known her for a while, and she and Miranda met through me and became friends. One day Miranda said, ‘Keith Urban wants me to sing this song with him,’ and she played the song and I recognized that it was Nicole Galyon’s song. Then I became excited for Nicole, excited for Miranda, and excited for Keith that he gets to record with Miranda. So I was in LA, Miranda was with me, and Keith was here too, and I went to the studio. I wanted to be a witness to it, because I knew it was going to be big. I didn’t want to get in the way, so I went in the break room, and read tabloids about myself, and I could hear them recording the song. I told Keith it’s everything you want from a great song, not to mention they sing so great together. So much energy, I don’t know two more energetic vocalists than those two. And the thing about this song is that she has her own solo song on the chart now, All Kinds of Kinds, and she knew this duet could hurt the chart success of her own song, and she said ‘I can deal with that, because this song is that important.’ And I agree with her.”
Nicole Galyon wrote “We Were Us” with Jimmy Robbins, who writes for Keith Urban’s publishing company. Ironically, Jimmy also had a hand in writing “Sure Be Cool If You Did,” which became a #1 for Blake earlier this year. A few weeks ago, Keith told Lon that he originally passed on that song because he didn’t think it was right for him.
