Carrie Underwood: TV Music Star

| September 21, 2013

Carrie 9-19-13Hard to believe, but it’s been 8 years since Carrie Underwood won American Idol.  In that time, so much has happened in her life and career.  Last week, she celebrated her 18th #1 song, “See You Again.”  She’s also sold millions of records, performed for millions of fans, and won a room full of awards.  Now, she’s at a transitional point in her career where her focus will be on a number of TV projects.

Sunday night, she will perform on the 65th Annual Emmy Awards, as part of a tribute to the 50th Anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963.  She said she is looking forward to it: “It’s all about TV, music, changing perceptions, and defining an era that was a big changing time in our culture.  It’s not about me at all, and that’s awesome, I’m happy with that. Hopefully it will be a beautiful tribute to an important time.  I’m honored to provide the soundtrack for that.  It’s fitting we’re celebrating music and TV, and I got my start on a music TV show, so it’s cool I get to be part of it. “Carrie SOM

While the Emmy Awards take place on CBS, over on NBC, Carrie will be seen singing the opening theme for Sunday Night Football.  She says she tuned in for the premiere a couple weeks ago: ” I watched the first night that it aired, it was so much fun to see it in context, you spend so much time working on things, shooting it, recording it, I feel like we’ve been waiting for MONTHS for Sunday night, so it was fun to see it in context.”

Also for NBC, Carrie will be rehearsing for the TV production of “The Sound Of Music,” airing December 5th.  Carrie says she’s already begun work on the project: “It kicked in already, so much going on, I’ve been working on it for a couple months now, I’m confident that every day from October to December 5th, we’ll be doing stuff every day.  It’s going to be time consuming and challenging but very worth it.”

CMA 2013Then on November 6, Carrie will be seen on ABC where she will co-host the Country Music Association Awards for the 6th time with Brad Paisley: “When you’re around someone as much as I am with Brad, he’s the brother I never had, that’s wonderful, he’s a great guy, he has a gorgeous family, and I’m lucky I get to call him a friend, and he’s fun to be around.”

We’d be remiss if we left out Fox, home of “American Idol,” where Carrie got her start over 8 years ago.  She always makes a point to stop by the show every year, and she knows the auditions for Season 13 are taking place right now: “You never know what’s going to happen.  When I was on the show there was an amazing chemistry between the judges and contestants, so there’s a lot of factors that go into making a TV show work.  I’m waiting in anticipation like everybody else.”

With all of those amazing projects coming up, Carrie says it’s almost impossible to look beyond the next few months: “Honestly I don’t even think about that.  So many things I wouldn’t have thought I’d be asked to do.  I see what doors open, see what’s out there, figure it out from there, I have no goals, things that come my way are things I’ve never dreamt of, so just keep your eyes and ears open.”
