Hunter Hayes Forgets The Words

Hunter Hayes performed at the CMA Music Fest a couple months ago.  The show was sold out at Nashville’s LP Field Football Stadium.  Hunter told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton the whole experience was a bit overwhelming: “I’ll be totally honest with you, I was so caught in the moment, I forgot my own lyrics that I’ve sung thousands of times.  I refuse to admit which one it was.  But I was thinking about what was going on, I was taking it all in, and got caught in the middle of that moment trying to process it all, and completely forgot the first line of my song.  I looked around at my band and nobody was getting that I needed help.  Then I looked at my drummer, and he mouthed the words, and I was like ‘YES!  Thank You!’  It was hilarious.  That puts it in perspective.  That’s how much there is to take in in that moment.  It was definitely a song I wrote, a song I’ve sung a bazillion times, but that’s how much that moment means.

Joining Hunter Hayes on the CMA Music Fest this year was one of his musical influences: Jason Mraz.  Jason first met Hunter at the Grammy Awards, and then joined him on a song on Hunter’s new CD.  They performed that song, “Everybody’s Got Somebody But Me” on the show that night.  Hunter described that moment to Lon: “I got to bring up Jason Mraz as my surprise special guest.  I felt really cool at that moment.  All of a sudden, I was like, ‘Hey, say hello to my buddy, my pal!’ It was a really special night.”
