Brett Eldredge First Top 10
It’s a long way from Paris Illinois to the Top 10, and Brett Eldredge knows the journey. It wasn’t a quick trip, either. He arrived in Nashville in 2008, was signed to a record deal a year later, and released his debut single in 2010. But it took three more years to come up with the song that would get him his first Top 10: “Don’t Ya.” He spoke to Country Countdown USA: “Life for me having a hit song on the radio, life is the best it’s ever been. I started out singing the national anthem when I was 4 years old. Now I’m opening for Taylor Swift. It’s really awesome. It’s everything I ever dreamed of, and I’m not ready to stop now. I just want to stay inspired and make great music for a long time.”
We asked Brett about the appeal of “Don’t Ya:” This song, I think girls know they are very good at playing tricks on our mind. Nothing wrong with that, in fact I love they’re good at it, and guys agree, and the girls are like, ‘Yes we do that,’ so it’s totally relatable that way. It’s been crazy. The opening line is, ‘Girl you cut those jeans just right,’ and girls cut their jeans and come to my show. Makes me glad I wrote that line! But it’s cool when a song connects with a crowd like this. It makes you get up and dance!”
Brett’s debut album, “Bring You Back,” will be released on August 6th. We asked his thoughts about reaching that goal: “You gotta learn to be patient in this business. I’m sitting here holding my CD right now, which is the first time I’m doing that, and it’s a crazy feeling. I signed a record deal 3 years ago, thinking this would happen overnight, and you learn that it doesn’t, but it makes it that much sweeter when it does. I’ve gone through the journey of who I am as an artist, and now I have this album that’s 100% of who I am, and wouldn’t change a single song on here. That’s a great feeling knowing that, so hopefully everybody loves it.”
So where will you be on release day, August 6th: I’ll be in New York City, such an energetic place, I’ll have so much energy that day I might explode, my whole family is flying up for it, It’s gonna be great, we’re gonna do Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, the Today Show, Kelly & Michael, all this stuff, getting to do everything I wanted to do, life has never been better, hopefully it’ll continue to be that way.”
INSIDE STUFF: Brett Eldredge is one tall dude. How tall? He’s 6’5″! “My dad played college basketball, my brother COULD have played college basketball, and I played music. Still, around the holidays, my brother and I will play pick-up basketball anywhere. But don’t ask my dad or brother to sing. They’re not musically gifted as they are in sports. But they’re there supporting me.”
