Tim McGraw Repeats TV Special
Tim McGraw’s Superstar Summer Night TV special will be repeated this Friday night at 8 PM ET on CBS-TV. The two-hour show originally aired in May, and was recorded the day after the ACM Awards in April. When Tim co-hosted Country Countdown USA, he told Lon Helton: “It was fun to do, it was a fun project. There were a lot of great moments, singing with Pitbull, singing with Ne-Yo, Florida Georgia Line with Nelly, but I think the most fun was singing with John Fogerty at the end. He was fantastic. We were all in awe of him, we’re all big fans. But at the rehearsal, when he lit into the guitar and started singing, we were all, ‘What in the world are we doing up here with this guy?'”
When the show originally aired in May, it was up against the Billboard Awards and the Celebrity Apprentice Finale. The McGraw special came in second to the Billboard Awards in the ratings. Tim spoke with Lon about all the “country competition:” “We were pretty close to the Billboard Awards, considering. I think country music is in a great spot right now. So many great artists and great songs. I think the TV folks are finally discovering there are a lot of people that live between the coasts.” This week, the only possible competition comes from a music special on the CW Network.
One of the other highlights from Tim’s TV special is “Highway Don’t Care,” featuring Taylor Swift and Keith Urban. When he co-hosted the Countdown, Tim talked about that performance: “When we did it at rehearsal, when we did it the second time, it all came together, and when we did the show, it was a great moment for us. Keith was blazing on guitar, and Taylor & I were standing there soaking it in, caught in the moment, and it was one of the coolest moments I’ve had on TV. It ranks up there with performing “It’s Your Love” for the first time with my wife.”
The Band Perry also performed on the special, but they were in the audience for “Highway Don’t Care.” Kimberly says she’ll never forget it: “That was so powerful. One of my favorite moments was when Keith came up to the front and just ripped this guitar solo. We were in the second row, and so we were pretty close, and I was just mesmerized by it.”
In other McGraw news, Tim’s Two Lanes of Freedom tour wraps up this weekend. Also, fans can download his final live track of new songs recorded during the tour at TimMcGraw.com. A total of five live songs were released this summer for the “Live In Overdrive” promotion.
