Rucker & Crow Pop To Country

| May 18, 2013

darius_inviteBack in 1994, Darius Rucker’s band Hootie & The Blowfish topped the pop chart with “Hold My Hand.”  That same year, Sheryl Crow did the same thing with “All I Want To Do.”  Now, almost 20 years later, Darius and Sheryl are together again in the country chart.  Darius has “Wagon Wheel” in the Top 5, and Sheryl just entered the chart with “Easy.”  Darius spoke with Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton about the first time he & Sheryl met: “I’ve known Sheryl since October 1994, and that night I said I wanted to sing with her someday, and now we’re actually singing together on my country project, so it’s pretty awesome.”  The song is “Love Without You,” and it’s on Darius’ new album “True Believers,” available this week.

Darius also told Lon that Sheryl is building her country career the same way he did, by starting from scratch: “When I started, I told my record label I’m the new guy.  I didn’t want to come to country with any preconceived notions, I wanted to earn it.  And Sheryl is smart, she sees this format as about being real.  I talk to other people who want to come over, and I tell them don’t come if you’re not real.  If you want to be a rock star, there’s no room for you. You got to be a person, and be the new guy, and work your way up, just like everybody else did.  That’s what I did, and that’s what she’s doing.  We’re actually going to do some shows together in the fall, so that’ll be cool.”
