Lee Brice Celebrates 2nd #1

| December 5, 2012

Nashville is the kind of town that likes to celebrate success.  The best example of that is a uniquely Nashville thing called a #1 party.  That’s where everyone involved in the making of a #1 song get together to celebrate and present momentoes of their achievement.  On Tuesday, the song being celebrated was “Hard To Love,” the latest hit by Lee Brice.  On this day, Lee and the songwriters received plaques like this to hang on their walls in honor of their accomplishment.  Before the party, Lee came to the conference room in the headquarters of the Country Music Association to meet with the press and answer some questions.

Did you have any idea that this would become your second #1? I did immediately actually.  It was a song I gravitated to, and I knew it was a hit.  Then the title, I thought it would make a great album title.  It was near the end of the writing process.  I wanted something that meant something to me, and it was the new picture of me.

It’s very vulnerable, did that also appeal to you? Yeah, it’s true to who I am, and true to most guys, whether they show it or not.  Guys want to say the truth, and women want to hear the truth. Especially truth like that, especially if it’s not what a guy will let out.  But a woman wants to hear that.  I’m figuring that out.

Have you made any resolutions or goals for the new year? It’s funny, I just found last year’s resolutions.  What was so cool is I almost actually really did go through with most of those resolutions.  That was the first time I did that.  A lot of things have changed in my life, and I hope to do that next year.  I want to be home more with my family.  I’ve got goals in mind, but it’s kind of a means to an end.  My little boy is 4 years old, and I want to watch him grow up.

What tours will you do next year? We’re doing dates with Miranda and Dierks.  We’re also part of another big tour, but it hasn’t been announced yet.  This will be our first major tour.  I plan on learning a lot.  It’s going to be good.

You’re about to get plaques and awards.  This will be your second time as an artist.  What goes through your mind when that happens?  I like plaques.  I got a new house, I got to fill some wall space.  But when I first came to town, I’d go to a writer’s house or a producer’s office, and I’d think, I’m never gonna get to that point.  So now that that’s happening, I’ve got too many to put on the wall.  It’s so exciting to me.  It was cool the last time because it was my first.  This time, I’m excited because these writers are my best friends, so it’s really about them today.  They deserve the plaques today.
